Bindery Operator (Full-time)

The printing industry is an ever evolving and rapidly changing trade. Our field spans across many different media and requires lifelong learning. Our shop is fast paced and provides products and services primarily to other businesses.

Position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining all bindery equipment. Position also places orders with approved vendor list for approved bindery supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail
  • Working closely in a team oriented environment
  • Professional, helpful, and courteous in all situations and circumstances
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • In-depth knowledge of the mechanics and capabilities of bindery equipment is a plus
  • Press operator experience is a huge plus
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate bindery equipment including, but not limited to, cutter, folder saddle stitcher, collator, tabber, drilling, laminator, shrink wrapper, Heidelberg Windmill, pallet jack
  • Perform minor repairs, daily preventive maintenance on, and clean bindery equipment
  • Order approved bindery supplies from approved vendor list and only as needed
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly working space
  • Organize bindery supplies and equipment and tracking bindery inventory
  • Proactively communicate work flow and equipment concerns with Shop Manager
  • Occasional fulfilment (repetitive manual setting up and stuffing of small boxes, tubes, and the like for customer mailings)
  • Recommend improvements in processes
  • Quality control jobs before receiving them and after completing them
  • Following job instructions on work orders
  • Quickly learn how to use any new equipment

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Regularly lifting / lowering up to 60 lb objects (i.e. paper boxes, small equipment, etc)
  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Observe safety standards where required such as: wearing closed-toed shoes, goggles, hearing protection, etc.
